Roy's Desert Resource Center Remodel
County of Riverside

This mental health facility, located in Palm Springs, CA, provides in-patient care with forensic, augmented, and clinical spaces for Riverside County. The project involves renovating an existing 57,818 SF, two-story concrete tilt-up building. The upgrades include a comprehensive overhaul of the exterior envelope, roof, and mechanical systems to support the facility's programs and achieve a LEED-Silver certificate. New amenities introduced are exterior canopies for outdoor comfort and two new decks on the second floor. Additionally, site improvements include updated egress components, adding new parking stalls and paving new paths of travel around the facility, enhancing accessibility for both tenants and employees.

The design of the facility reflects an architectural approach where the sweeping lines of the exterior canopies are echoed inside, aiming to bring a sense of levity to the environment of recovery and respite. The subtle, unassuming exterior of the building contrasts with the interior, which provides a surprising aura of safety and comfort. These design elements help support the inhabitants as they navigate through their treatment programs and daily routines.
